Rossini's Rome

Luigi Rossini (1790-1857) has earned a reputation as one of the premier practitioners of neoclassical etching. His portfolio includes over 1,000 plates that commemorate the strength and beauty of Roman masonry.

This exhibition which includes original Rossini prints reflects his ability to capture the detail that made Roman architecture so splendid and enduring. The prints serve as a testimony to his ability to recreate the triumphal arches, bridges and temples with conviction and vigor.

Having abandoned an architectural career due to economic reasons, Rossini modeled his career after Piranesi and went on to publish several seminal folios celebrating the grandeur that was once Rome.
